This was a gorgeous drive, and quite cool. Let me set the stage: Cape Flattery (and, specifically, the Cape Flattery observation deck) is the furthest west you can drive in the Lower 48 states. I think there's a place in Oregon that you can take a hiking trail to a spot slightly further west, but for MY purposes, this was as far West as you could go, and a natural endpoint for the Westward Ho!

But this is all indian-owned land, and I had to stop and pay a wonderful lady for the opportunity to drive out to the point, and I don't know; she gave a little lecture on the history of the land and the indigenous peoples that lived here, and a gentle entreaty to 'take only pictures, and leave only footprints' that really charmed me. Sometimes out East it can feel like nature is just something that's in the way of the next shopping mall; folks seem to have a bit more reverence for the natural world out here and this was my first taste of it.

And the road was really cool, exciting. I felt the Ultimate West was close!
